The gates of Worthy Farm opened wide for the Glastonbury Festival 2024 this morning, ushering in fans for five days of cultural festivities. Festival organiser Emily Eavis, accompanied by the sounds of a brass band, energetically opened the iconic emerald gates.

The excited crowd rushed into the fields in search of the prime camping spots as soon as the gates were opened.

These pictures show huge queues forming as gates opened for the Glastonbury Festival.

The site in Pilton is set to be one of the most densely populated places on earth during the event and thousands arrived early to try and secure the best camping spot.

Many arrived at the car parks late last night (Tues) in excitement and anticipation at the world-famous festival with the likes of Dua Lipa and Coldplay headlining this year.

Among those to get near the front were Eve, 27, and Guy Clements, 27, who made it through the gates just after 8am.

They said they live only ten minutes down the road and had been queuing for around four hours.

Though Eve said others have been waiting in the festival carpark since 9pm last night - and are still hanging around on their camp chairs in the queue lines which appear 'never-ending'.

Eve, who has been attending Glastonbury since eight-years-old, said: "This is an annual pilgrimage for me.

"We are very excited and have literally just got in.

"As were are literally ten minutes down the road, we got here not too early this morning around 4am.

"But some people have been here since 9pm waiting in the car park - people are pretty keen to get in!

"There are so many seas of people here, it's crazy."

Eve and Guy are now staying until Monday - not leaving the gates until the epic festival comes to a close.

She added: "I keep saying the night life is going to be amazing. The headliners are often great but I can't wait to see the artists and DJs I don't know - there are so many people performing, it's going to be great."
