In Glastonbury, much of the vibrant and expressive street art adorning the town's walls is the work of local artist Ben Chidgey.

Known for his striking creations, Ben has expanded his artistic reach from the streets to the canvas of the human body. At 40, he has become a prominent tattoo artist and recently opened his own studio, Chapter 3, on Northload Street.

Ben's journey from street artist to tattooist began 15 years ago when he moved to Glastonbury. His transition into tattooing was a fortunate twist of fate. While painting in a friend's studio, he was offered the opportunity to learn tattooing. "I painted in a mate's studio, and he offered to teach me. Lucky, really," he said.

After honing his skills at Exclusive Tattoos for several years, Ben decided it was time to "do his own thing" and opened Chapter 3.

The studio's name symbolises a new phase in his artistic journey. "I loved my time at Exclusive Tattoos," Ben says, "but I just wanted to do my own thing."

Ben's tattooing style is unique, influenced by his love for pop art and logos, and carries echoes of his street art. Over the years, he has tattooed hundreds of individuals, each piece a distinctive interpretation of his artistic expression.

For those new to tattoos, Ben offers some wise advice: "Research your artist and make sure they can do what you want—and make sure they are not proper spleens!" His emphasis is on finding an artist whose style resonates with you, much like his street art resonates with the Glastonbury community.

From the walls of his hometown to the skin of his clients, Ben's art continues to evolve and inspire. His studio, Chapter 3, located on Northload Street, provides a window into a creative mind that once transformed the urban landscape and is now leaving its mark in the world of tattooing.

Those interested in exploring Ben's work further or booking an appointment can reach him at [email protected] or visit Chapter 3 to experience his artistry in person.
