As food prices continue to rise, growing you own food can be a way of saving some money – as well as boosting both mental and physical health.

But although it might seem like a lovely idea, many people don't know where to start.

Which is where Feed Avalon and the Somerset Community Foundation can help.

The two organisations have teamed up to offer free community cooking and growing courses this autumn.

The courses will cover a wide range of subjects.

On offer for the green fingered, or those who would like to be, there will be seed saving, tree grating and overwintering planting.

On the cooking side of things, courses will cover cooking on a budget, foraging for seasonal ingredients, plus preserving and fermenting.

And in the winter there will be vegan Christmas cooking and wreath making.

The courses will be taking place at Red Brick Community Garden, either outside or in the new Geo-dome that has been completed this summer.

The courses are free of charge, but donations will be appreciated. The dates will be set in the next week and booking will be advisable.

Follow the Feed Avalon Facebook page for more information.
