Former Street fish and chip shop could become a home
By Laura Linham 25th Aug 2026
The former West End Fish n' Chip Bar in Street could be turned into a home under plans submitted to Somerset Council.
The application relates to 40 West End Street, Street, BA16 0LW, and seeks permission to change the use of the premises from a hot food takeaway to a residential dwelling. Alterations to the property's windows and doors are also proposed.
The application, reference 2026/1537/FUL, was received by the council on Tuesday, 11 August and is currently awaiting a decision.
The premises were formerly occupied by the West End Fish n' Chip Bar. The planning application describes the existing use as a hot food takeaway.
Somerset Council included the proposal among planning applications advertised in its recent public notices, with representations invited as part of the planning process.
No decision has yet been made on whether the change of use can go ahead.
Anyone wishing to view or comment on the application can use Somerset Council's planning portal and search for reference 2026/1537/FUL.
