The Wessex Hotel in Street will reopen to the public on Monday, 23rd September, after serving as the backdrop for a new Apple TV+ thriller, "Down Cemetery Road," produced by 60Forty Films.

The hotel is closed from 16th to 22nd September to accommodate the filming of the highly anticipated series.

The production, based on a novel by CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning author Mick Herron, stars Emma Thompson, best known for her roles in Nanny McPhee, Love Actually, and Cruella, alongside Ruth Wilson, celebrated for her performances in Jane Eyre, The Affair, and The Woman in the Wall.

Filmed under the working title "Larkin" to maintain secrecy, the series follows the mysterious disappearance of a girl after a house explosion in an Oxford suburb. The plot thickens as neighbour Sarah Tucker, played by Ruth Wilson, teams up with private investigator Zoë Boehm, portrayed by Emma Thompson, to unravel a complex conspiracy involving people long thought to be dead.

Throughout the week, the production caused some minor disruption in the town, including stop/go traffic controls on the High Street and a lighting crane positioned in the hotel's car park on Somerton Road. Filming took place on Thursday, 19th September, and Friday, 20th September, with local authorities working alongside the crew to manage any disruptions.

"Down Cemetery Road," is set to air on Apple TV+. 60Forty Films, known for hits like Hijack starring Idris Elba and Slow Horses, is led by Emmy Award-winning producers Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta.

The Wessex Hotel is expected to return to normal operations from Monday, 23rd September.
