A dispersal order has been put in place for the remainder of the Bank Holiday weekend in Glastonbury, after a seizure of drugs and the issuance of a dispersal notice to a female on the previous day.
This action was taken by the authorities in anticipation of the arrival of more than 5,000 visitors to the town over the weekend.
A dispersal order is a legal order issued by the police under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. It gives the police the power to require individuals or groups who are causing or likely to cause anti-social behaviour to leave a specific area for a specified period. The order can be issued for a period of up to 48 hours and can be extended in some circumstances.
The police in Glastonbury have urged all visitors to the area to respect the town and its residents so that everyone can enjoy the festivities without any issues. The dispersal order is a preventative measure to ensure that any potential anti-social behaviour is dealt with quickly and effectively.
A police spokesman said: "We want everyone who comes to Glastonbury to have a great time, but we also want to ensure that the town and its residents are respected. The dispersal order will give us the power to deal with any anti-social behaviour swiftly and effectively, so that everyone can enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend safely."
The authorities in Glastonbury have also reminded visitors that the possession and use of illegal drugs is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated. They have urged anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour to report it to the police immediately.
As the Bank Holiday weekend continues, the police will be closely monitoring the situation in Glastonbury to ensure that everyone can enjoy the festivities safely and without any issues.
