Crime rose across Glastonbury and Street in June, with police recording a combined 258 offences during the month.

Glastonbury Town accounted for 153 of those crimes, up from 123 in May, while Street recorded 105 — an increase from 91 the previous month.

Violent crime was the largest category in both places and played a significant part in the overall rise.

In Glastonbury, the number of violent offences climbed from 36 in May to 51 in June. Reports of anti-social behaviour also rose sharply, from 24 to 38.

Between them, those two categories accounted for 89 of the 153 crimes recorded in the town during June.

Shoplifting remained another prominent issue, although the figure was unchanged at 25 offences.

Police recorded three robberies in Glastonbury during June, after none appeared in the May figures. Burglary increased from two offences to four, while drug and vehicle offences also rose slightly.

The increase was not seen across every category. Criminal damage and arson fell from 11 offences to nine, while public order offences dropped from 14 to 12 and other theft declined from six to four.

Street saw a smaller overall rise, but the figures showed a marked increase in theft.

Other theft jumped from three offences in May to 11 in June, while shoplifting rose from 11 to 13.

Public order offences doubled from four to eight, and violent crime increased from 39 to 44. Ten incidents of anti-social behaviour were recorded, one more than in May.

June's figures also included two possession of weapons offences and one theft from the person. Neither category appeared in Street's May statistics.

There was better news in the burglary figures, which fell from nine offences to two. Criminal damage and arson dropped from ten offences to seven, while robbery and drug offences also declined.

The figures mean recorded crime rose by around 24 per cent in Glastonbury and 15 per cent in Street between May and June.

Monthly statistics provide a snapshot of crimes reported to and logged by police. They do not show whether an offence resulted in an arrest, charge or conviction.

Police advise that it can take up to 30 days for the previous month's statistics to become available.
