After all the Christmas and New Year's activities, things are a little quieter this weekend, but there's still enough going on in the area to keep you entered.

Whether you're looking to indulge in creative pursuits, enjoy some music, or explore local history, there's something for everyone.

This newsletter is proudly sponsored by The King Arthur in Glastonbury, and if you've spotted that we've not mentioned their musical line up for this week, it's because the pub is currently closed for refurbishment, don't worry, though – they're set to reopen on the 8th January, unveiling a fresh new look for all to enjoy.

Starting the weekend with a spark of creativity, the Light Up Wells Lantern Making Workshop is taking place at the Portway Annexe on January 6th. Morning sessions are from 10am to 1pm / afternoon sessions are from 1pm to 4pm. The session takes place ahead of the Light Up Wells Lantern Parade which takes place on Saturday 20th January at 6.30 pm

Use your creative flair on your own or with your family or a group to make a stunning lantern out of tissue paper and willow. At the lantern-making workshops, you'll be provided with basic instructions and the materials to create your own unique lantern. The theme for 2024 is Festivals, so draw your idea in advance and bring it with you.

For each booking they are asking for a £5 donation to pay for one lantern kit, so please book a ticket for each person requiring a kit. Please bring or buy battery-operated lights to light up your lantern. If you have secateurs, they would be useful too. You will be able to buy more lantern kits and lights at the venue if you need them.

These workshops are suitable for all but children under seven must be accompanied by one adult per child.

For those seeking a fresh start to the new year, the Library of Avalon in Glastonbury is hosting 'A Fresh Start' event on Saturday, January 6th, from 17:30 to 20:00. This could be the perfect chance to set your intentions for the year ahead in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Music lovers are in for a treat with the Mobius Loop Candlelit Concert at St Benedict's Church in Glastonbury, also on January 6th. From 19:00 to 21:45, immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere a seated candlelit concert of sacred songs, folk stories, medicine music and Om Bombs!

For thrill-seekers, the Ghost Hunt at Shepton Mallet Prison offers an adrenaline-pumping experience. Spanning from the evening of January 6th to the early hours of January 7th, this event promises to be a spine-tingling exploration of one of the area's most haunted locations.

On Sunday, January 7th, beat the January blues with Shepton Walks, starting at 10:00. It's a great way to get outdoors, stretch your legs, and enjoy the company of fellow walkers in the beautiful surroundings of Shepton Mallet.

For a relaxed Sunday morning, SofaSunday@themission at Street Mission Church, starting at 10:30, offers a comfortable and casual church experience. It's an inviting space for community, conversation, and reflection.

Later in the day, at 16:00, St Aldhelm's Church in Doulting is hosting 'Messy Church', a fun and interactive church service perfect for families looking to engage in faith in an accessible and enjoyable way.

Overall, this weekend offers a rich tapestry of activities and events, ensuring that there's no shortage of things to do in and around Glastonbury. Whether you're into arts, music, history, or community gatherings, there's plenty to keep you engaged and entertained.
