Church warden’s daily tower climb raises funds for St Ben’s
By Laura Linham 18th May 2026
A Glastonbury church warden is climbing St Benedict's Church tower every day throughout May to raise money for the church's community work.
Liz Pearson, one of the church wardens at St Ben's, began the challenge on Thursday, 1 May, and plans to continue until Wednesday, 28 May.
She is climbing the tower at different times of day and taking photographs from above Glastonbury as she goes.
A selection of the pictures will later be brought together for an exhibition in June.
The fundraiser is aimed at helping St Benedict's Church continue offering free community events, including its free community lunch, toddler group and other local activities.
For many churches, keeping community services running is as important as maintaining the building itself.
St Ben's has become a regular meeting point for local families, residents and community groups, and the challenge is intended to help support that work.
Liz is also hoping to take on an additional challenge by abseiling down the tower, although a date has not yet been confirmed.
She said she is waiting to agree plans with the rope team.
The GoFundMe page for Liz's Tower Challenge had raised more than £700 towards a £1,800 target at the time of writing.
People wanting to support the fundraiser can donate via Liz's Tower Challenge.
As part of the fundraiser, Liz is also offering photo commissions for people wanting aerial photographs of a group, team or family.
St Benedict's Church shared details of the challenge online and encouraged residents to support the effort or donate if they see Liz during one of the climbs.
