The kerbside waste collection dates for the Christmas and new year period in Glastonbury have been confirmed.
With so much extra waste and recycling to shift, kerbside waste collections will run up to two days later than normal over the Christmas and new year period.
Here are the revised dates for Christmas kerbside collections (usual day shown first):
Monday, December 23: no change
Christmas Eve: no changeChristmas Day: Friday, December 27
Boxing Day: Saturday, December 28Friday, December 27: Sunday, December 29
Monday, December 30: no changeNew Year's Eve: no change
New Year's Day: Thursday, January 2Thursday, January 2: Friday, January 3
Friday, January 3: Saturday, January 4Monday, January 6: usual services resume
Make sure you get your bins out early on the morning in question – or put them out the night before – to avoid any missed collections.
If you can't fit all your waste in your recycling boxes in one go, don't panic. Spreading it out over two weeks will actually help to keep collections on time and prevent waste collectors from being overwhelmed.
A Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) spokesman said: "Before and after Christmas and new year, please do not overload our vehicles or crews.
"Put excess materials from festive parties, internet deliveries and Christmas clear-ups out over time or take them all to a recycling site."
With all the extra waste being generated over Christmas, it won't be easy to squeeze it all into your bins. If this is the case, you can take additional items to your local recycling centre.
The SWP estimates that the combined effect of Christmas presents and the January sales will result in an extra 53 tonnes of fridges and freezers, 52 tonnes of cookers and washing machines, 17 tonnes of kettles, toasters and other small electrical items, and 13 tonnes of televisions being recycled across the county.
All recycling sites will be open 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays on December 21-22, December 28-29 and January 4-5.
All sites are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
If you have purchased or been given an electrical item for Christmas, it's worth checking whether the retailer in question operates a take-back scheme, or whether there are charities in your areas who can reuse white goods you no longer need.
