Glastonbury builders Melhuish and Saunders have completed the construction of a new resource centre for Marpool Primary School in Exmouth.

The centre is designed to cater to children who face challenges in mainstream education and will provide learning experiences tailored to individual children to help them engage better with their national curriculum schoolwork.

It includes classrooms, an office, staffing, WCs, communal, and break-out areas.

Glastonbury building contractor Melhuish and Saunders, who are celebrating their 100th birthday, began the project in May 2021.

Site Manager Bobby Vining, and Managing Director of Melhuish and Saunders Darryl Mitchard, attended the grand opening last month.

They said: "It was great to meet the children who will be using this new building and facilities within, hearing their comments about all being in the same space and not having to move around so much was great to hear and how we have positively impacted on them.

"Some of the parents I spoke with were emotional now that the building was ready to use. I always say my job isn't just about construction, it is about transforming lives by turning their dreams into reality and this project is a great example of this."

Darryl and Bobby were presented with gifts from the children, which included a CD of 'Marpool Melodies' to enjoy with some homemade jam and cake.

Marpool Primary School Executive Headteacher Rachel Pattison also reportedly worked "tirelessly" on the project.

Local supporters who made the new build possible include the Exe Estuary Federation, Marpool Primary School, their local Rotarians, Dave Roberts, The Bailey Thomas Charity, The Norman Trust, Tesco, The Co-operative and fundraisers via GoFundMe.
