Millfield School has been recognised as the leading sports school in the UK, according to the latest rankings by School Sports Magazine.

This marks the tenth time in eleven years that Millfield, along with Millfield Prep School, has achieved this distinction, celebrating their sustained success in a range of sports.

In 2023, Millfield continued to demonstrate outstanding sporting performance. The school's First XV rugby team was featured in the renowned documentary 'The Season,' which followed their journey to victory at St. Joseph's Festival and the School's Championship. The series garnered over 1 million views on social media, highlighting the team's achievements.

Millfield's Girls in Sport programme has been instrumental in promoting education and awareness about the unique needs of female athletes, aiming to address societal and physical challenges that can impede progress in women's sports. This initiative has been widely discussed in national media.

A highlight of the year was the formation of the Millfield swimming Performance Squad, featuring British swimming stars, including Olympic gold medallist James Guy MBE and world champion Matt Richards. The squad, coached by Ryan Livingstone, British Swimming Coach of the Year and member of Team GB's Paris 2024 coaching team, is set to compete in the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

In addition to team national titles across various sports, Millfield students achieved impressive individual successes. These included three rugby players securing senior academy contracts with Bath Rugby, an Upper Sixth goalkeeper signing with Ipswich Town, and a dancer representing England at the Dance World Cup in Portugal.

An Upper Sixth student made history as the youngest ever international cricket umpire at the Kwibuka Women's T20 tournament. A skier represented Great Britain at the Alpe Cimbra FIS children's cup in Italy, and six students participated in the senior and U20 Six Nations. Furthermore, three students represented Great Britain at the World Biathle and Triathle Championships in Bali, with one being crowned World Champion.

Millfield Prep's U13 Girls team won the English Schools Football Association National Cup, and their swim team were named IAPS National champions for the 36th consecutive year.

Dr Scott Drawer, Millfield's Director of Sport, commented on the achievement: "The award is recognition of the breadth and depth of multi-sport opportunities we provide to students in both boys' and girls' sport. We are proud of the dedication of our students and the expertise of our coaching and teacher workforce. We must also acknowledge the role parents play in supporting their child's sporting journey at Millfield."

Jo Morgan-Hughes, Director of Sport at Millfield Prep School, added: "We are absolutely delighted to receive this prestigious award. While our emphasis is on participation, learning and enjoyment, this achievement highlights the standards the young pupils attain across a huge variety of sports. Pupils, staff and parents all work together, so this award is for the entire Millfield community."
