A car fire in a Glastonbury car park is believed to have been caused by an electrical device left charging in the vehicle.

At around 2.20pm yesterday (June 21) Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting a car on fire in St John's Car Park.

One fire engine from Glastonbury was immediately mobilised by Fire Control.

On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed that there was smoke coming from the vehicle, and got crews to work using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one safety jet, to gain access to the vehicle and tackle the fire.

The fire, which was believed to have been caused by an electrical item left charging in the vehicle, caused about 25 per cent damage to compartments in the car.

The fire was deemed as accidental.
