Barn Fire at Buscott Lane, Shapwick

Date: 29.06.2018Time: 06:51Location: Buscott Lane, ShapwickDevon and Somerset and Fire and Rescue Service received a call reporting a large barn fire at the above address.

Fire control immediately mobilised one fire appliance from Street, one fire appliance from Glastonbury, one fire appliance from Shepton Mallet, one Water Carrier from Bridgwater and two duty officer to attend this incident.

Further calls were received stating the barn was well alight. Fire control mobilised an additional fire appliance from Bridgwater to attend the incident.

On arrival the officer in charge confirmed one barn approximately a third full of hay well alight. Crews got to work with one covering jet, drag forks to stop fire spread to the silage bales.

 

Update at 08:01 

The officer in charge requested the attendance of the telehandler from Urban Search and Rescue Team, Exeter.

The crews making steady progress damping down surrounding area to prevent escalation.

 

Update at 09:09

Crews continued to dampen down surrounding area and silage bales and the surrounding trees. Crews awaiting the arrival of the telehandler.
