Burns The Bread has brought back its iced bun after a wave of reaction from customers.

The bakery had announced that the classic treat was being retired, saying that "times have changed" and "tastes have wandered".

But after days of debate online, the iced bun is back.

Burns The Bread said the decision to axe the bun had caused "such a stir", with comments from customers and mentions on Virgin Radio, Radio 4 and GB News.

The bakery said it had "listened loud and clear" after people called for the return of the soft bun topped with icing.

To mark the comeback, Burns The Bread announced a one-day buy-one-get-one-free offer on iced buns.

In a social media post, the bakery said: "Well... who knew an Iced Bun could cause such a stir? After days of debate, countless comments, and even mentions on Virgin Radio, Radio 4, and a surprise appearance on GB News, it's safe to say you've made your feelings known!

"So, we've listened loud and clear...The ice bun is back1"

The reversal comes after the bakery had posted a tongue-in-cheek farewell to the iced bun on Sunday, 25 May.

At the time, Burns The Bread described it as "humble", "sweet" and "ever-reliable", but said it had been "left behind more often than we'd like to admit".

The original post drew a mixed response.

Some customers said they would miss the traditional bakery staple, while others said they were happy to move on.

Burns The Bread is one of Somerset's best-known bakeries and has been recognised among the county's top names, including being shortlisted in the National Bakery of the Year Awards in 2025.
