St Mary's Church Hall in Glastonbury will soon be more accessible for people with disabilities after approval was given for the installation of a lift and the building of an external walkway.

The planning application for an external covered walkway including platform lift at St Mary's Church Hall, St Mary's Walk, Magdalene Street, Glastonbury, was submitted by the Clifton Diocese and has been approved by Mendip District Council.

In the application, the diocese said the lift was particularly needed as the main hall was on the first floor, and a number of users, despite being very content with the hall itself, have cancelled their contracts and moved to alternative premises, having become tired of struggling with stairs that are too much to manage.

Planning applications in the Glastonbury area that have been submitted to Mendip District Council this week include:

Demolition of existing conservatory and construction of single storey extension to rear of dwelling house at 4 Porch Close, Glastonbury, is wanted by Mr and Mrs Dale.

As has the change of use from cafe (Use Class A3) to mixed use of cafe (A3) on the ground floor and residential (C3) and Yoga/Healing room (D1) on the first floor and erection of rear extension, insertion of roof lights at the same address.

A tourism development of five self contained glamping pods (Change of Use of Land From Agricultural to Camping) at the Church Of The Holy Trinity, Godney Road, Godney, by Mr and Mrs Michael and Jenny Churches has been approved.
