Fields between Street and Glastonbury remain waterlogged after Storm Bert caused the River Brue to break its banks, flooding large areas of farmland. Drone footage captured by YouTuber JustMadnessBoy shows the extent of the flooding, with vast stretches of water covering normally green fields. The footage, available on the JustMadnessBoy YouTube channel, provides a bird's-eye view of the aftermath of the storm.

The Met Office has forecast a dry spell until Sunday, 1 December, offering some respite. However, the Environment Agency has warned that water levels in the area "are high and will remain steady," urging caution as clean-up efforts begin.

Storm Bert, which brought up to 75mm of rain and winds gusting at 60mph, caused widespread disruption across Somerset. While roads are now passable, residents and workers in the area are being urged to remain vigilant as debris left behind by the flooding could pose hazards.

A council spokesperson thanked emergency services, staff, and the public for their efforts during the storm and acknowledged the challenges faced by those affected:

"As the flood water which affected various areas across the county has mostly subsided following Storm Bert, our thoughts are with those clearing up any damage to their homes or businesses. Whilst road closures have lifted, there may still be debris on the roads and pavements which were submerged, so do take extra care in these areas."

The River Brue's breach highlighted the vulnerability of low-lying areas around Street and Glastonbury to heavy rainfall. Local farmers and residents are now working to restore the fields, with some expressing concern about the potential for further rainfall early next week. The Met Office has warned of possible wet and windy conditions returning on Tuesday night, which could exacerbate challenges in already saturated areas.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to stay informed about flood warnings on the Environment Agency's website and to exercise caution when driving through areas that were submerged. Somerset Council continues to monitor the situation and provide support to affected communities.
