Drivers commuting to Taunton from Street, Glastonbury, Wells, and Shepton Mallet are being warned to expect disruption as a key section of the A361 at Burrowbridge will be closed for ten days in April.

The road will be shut in both directions at the River Parrett bridge from 8am on Monday, 7 April to 5pm on Thursday, 17 April 2025 as Wessex Water carries out the next phase of a water main replacement project.

A diversion will be in place via Burrow Wall, Townsend, the A372 (Langport Road), Bridgwater (Parkway, A39 Bath Road, A38 Broadway and Taunton Road), and back onto the A361. Drivers should allow extra time for their journeys.

'Soft closures' in Othery and near Burrowbridge will remind HGVs of the closure and allow them to turn around before reaching the works.

This work follows initial investigations carried out last summer and will help reduce the time needed for the final phase of the project, which will see the installation of a temporary overland pipe.

Commuters are advised to plan ahead and check for travel updates before setting off.
