Glastonbury's cricket club is celebrating what they described as a "really, really successful participatory season," with notable expansions in youth and girls' cricket, as well as events that brought together players of all ages.

A club representative shared an update at a recent town council meeting, highlighting key achievements, new challenges, and exciting plans for the future.

The club's season saw the addition of six junior teams, including those for children as young as five and a dedicated girls' team for the first time, which has been a significant step forward for the club. The representative emphasised the impact, saying, "There's a lot of energy going into women and girls' cricket now, and it's so great to have a girls' cricket team." They noted that girls had always been welcome to play on the boys' teams, but the new girls' team has added "a whole different dynamic."

In an effort to bring together the club's junior and senior players, the club trialled a new community event featuring a "dads and lads and daughters and sons cricket match." The match was well received, and the club plans to make it an annual event to help young players feel more integrated into the club and create a pathway to senior teams. "For us, that's a really important way forward to grow the club," the representative said.

The club also faced some logistical issues this season, especially with parking, due to ongoing refurbishment at the adjacent leisure centre. However, the representative voiced optimism about the improvements, saying, "We're very much looking forward to having a refurbished building next year—it's going to make a massive difference to us."

Looking ahead, the club is also working with the British Heart Foundation to secure an exterior defibrillator for the pavilion, a move aimed at supporting both club members and the wider Glastonbury community. The representative noted, "We're in the process of applying for that… it will be available for the whole community," adding that installation is expected to take place either at the end of this year or early next year.

With plans for further integration of junior and senior players and anticipated improvements to facilities, the cricket club is optimistic about building on this season's success. As one club representative put it, "We're really pleased with how it's gone and looking forward to an even better season next year."
