CPRE Somerset, the countryside charity, have announced the winner of their 2020 photography competition - Reasons to be Cheerful.

They launched the competition in April just after lockdown was announced and invited people to send in images of their local green spaces and countryside or even their garden and to share what kept them going during those uncertain times.

As part of a national scheme, two Glastonbury pubs are offering customers free drinks during October.

Those who redeem their freebie will be able to choose from a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in both the Market House and the Riflemans Arms, each week up until October 29 as part of the Great British Pubs initiative.

An inquest has concluded today (October 14) that a 49-year-old Glastonbury woman died of Covid-19 in April while leaving her home to be transferred to a mental health unit.

Annette Davies, who lived in Hood Close, died on April 9 at her home address, with senior Somerset coroner Tony Williams ruling that she died of natural causes, with the primary cause being Covid-19 on the back of a history of pulmonary embolic disease which would have caused previous damage to her lungs.

A charity bike ride that is raising money for people in the entertainment industry whose livelihoods have been shattered by the coronavirus crisis, will be stopping off at the Glastonbury Festival site today (October 13).

Having started in Newcastle on Saturday October 3, the Survival Tour will be finishing in London on Sunday October 18, and involves five industry stalwarts (plus one driving the bus) cycling between 80km and 125km per day, representing the UK tour season that never happened this year.

A new £500 cash payment, intended to make it easier for people who can't afford to self-isolate for up to 14 days, is available to Mendip residents from today (Monday, 12th October).

Mendip District Council will be administering the 'Test and Trace Support Payment' for its residents. Applications to the scheme are open now, and can be backdated from 28th September onwards, where qualifying conditions are met. The support scheme is due to run until Friday, 31st January 2021.

Glastonbury firefighters helped tackle a blaze at a barn yesterday (October 10) that was caused by arsonists.

Just before 1pm, four fire engines from Bridgwater and Glastonbury along with a water carrier also from Bridgwater attended a report of a barn on fire in Holloway Road, Middlezoy.
