A rise in home working during the coronavirus crisis could lead to more missed bin collections over the Christmas period, waste bosses have warned.

The Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) has said a rise in home working as a result of the pandemic has made it harder for waste vehicles to access residential streets, especially those where on-street parking is the norm.

Alfie McAnespie with his letter from the Prime Minister

Pupil at Millfield Prep School in Edgarley, Alfie McAnespie, has been honoured to receive a letter from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, to thank him for his fundraising work for charity Help For Heroes.

Alfie, whose dad works in the military, was dubbed the Pint Sized Hero when he became the charity's youngest fundraiser at the age of 16 months, taking part in a sponsored one-mile unaided walk with his nursery.

Students in Years 7 and 9 at St Dunstan's School in Glastonbury have been told to self-isolate for the rest of the term following two suspected positive coronavirus cases.

The school sent a letter to parents this evening (December 7) to say it had been advised by Public Health England that it is highly likely there has been a positive case of Covid-19 within both the Year 7 and Year 9 groups at the school.
