Plans for a telecommunications mast in Lottisham, that should boost the rural broadband coverage in the area, have been given the go-ahead.

The planning application for a proposed installation of a 15-metre slimline telecommunications mast for broadband use with an equipment cabin at the base and antenna, dishes and ancillary development at Lottisham Farm, Lottisham Road, was submitted to Mendip District Council by rural broadband supplier Voneus Ltd.

Green Home Grants Scheme

Mendip District Council is encouraging local Tradespeople to register for TrustMark or Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation to be able to carry out works for the Government's Green Homes Grant scheme.

The Green Homes Grant scheme, which is due to go live in September, will allow Mendip residents to apply for vouchers of up to £5000 for Green home improvements where the government will fund up to two-thirds of the cost of the works, which may help families potentially save up to £600 a year on their energy bills. Homeowners and landlords can apply, and low income households will be eligible for up to 100% government funding up to £10,000.

Mendip District Council's Licensing Team is delivering virtual safeguarding sessions to all licensed taxi and private hire drivers in Glastonbury

More than 40 drivers, from across the district, attended the first two specialised courses, with more booked on throughout September and October. The sessions are taking place virtually due to the COVID crisis, they are free and meet the new Statutory Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Standards.

Two former pupils of St Benedict's Junior School and St Dunstan's School in Glastonbury are helping to promote world peace through the medium of choral singing.

Elizabeth Parsons and Helen Ostafew represent the UK in the newly formed World Choir for Peace, which on 4th September is releasing its first album, 'Peaceful Choir', on the Sony Classical label. This was recorded live in Hanover by an international group of 24 professional singers, and completed in just ten days only hours before Germany came under lockdown in March.
