Plastic ready for recycling at Somerset Waste Partnership's depot in Mendip

The first two months of Recycle More saw nearly 700 tonnes of extra recycling collected from Mendip's kerbsides, Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) has revealed, as it unveils plans to bring the scheme to communal buildings in Glastonbury like flats.

The 15 per cent jump for all recycling in the first eight weeks included 73 tonnes of extra plastic, which is a 25 per cent increase, and the equivalent of more than 14 double-decker buses in terms of space.

West Mendip Hospital in Glastonbury

Glastonbury's MP James Heappey has welcomed the news that all residents in care homes have now been offered a vaccine across Somerset, and he has praised the efforts of the vaccination staff at the town's West Mendip Hospital.

It follows the announcement that more than eight million first doses have now been administered in what is seen as a key milestone in the coronavirus pandemic.

The NHS 111 service provides advice on non-emergency conditions, with those who call being assessed over the phone by healthcare professionals and then directed to the most appropriate facilities in their location.

The new Kings Fitness and Leisure extension from Melhuish and Saunders

The Wessex Learning Trust has said it is delighted with the new Kings Fitness and Leisure extension, which has been completed by Glastonbury building contractors Melhuish and Saunders.

The trust has expressed its thanks to the company, after the work at the site in Cheddar was completed on time despite the challenges of operating during the Covid-19 restrictions.
