On Thursday 6 May residents in Mendip will have their say on who represents them at the Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner election. The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is the person who oversees your local police force and ensures they are prioritising what matters to you.

In order to vote in this important election, residents must be on the electoral register. With the deadline to register to vote fast approaching, Mendip District Council is urging people who have not registered at their current address to make sure they are registered in time.

Jack Paffett, Basic Space, Wells Art Contemporary People's Choice Award 2020

Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) is delighted to announce that entries are now open for this year's competition and exhibition of international contemporary art which is returning to Wells Cathedral, running from Saturday 28 August until Sunday 26 September.

This year the exhibition will also coincide with the installation of a new Antony Gormley work that will be exhibited on the West Front of Wells Cathedral.

Somerset Wildlife Trust are launching a new initiative in partnership with the Diocese of Bath and Wells called Wilder Churches.

The initiative will see the two organisations come together to support communities to protect biodiversity in their local churchyard or other church land and work together to find ways to increase the value of these special places for wildlife.

A planning application for safety and refurbishment works at the Crown Hotel in Glastonbury has been given the go-ahead by Mendip District Council.

The application for internal alterations to the bar, restaurant and guest rooms, including replacement rooflights (part-retrospective) at the Crown Hotel, 4 Market Place, Glastonbury, was submitted by Bruce Ashmore.
