A woman was freed from a wrecked car after it crashed into an electricity pole between Glastonbury and Shepton in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to West Pennard at about 3.54am on Thursday, 19 March 2026, after a single vehicle left the road and struck the pole.

Fire crews from Glastonbury and Street attended alongside police and the ambulance service.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the crash involved one vehicle which had "hit an electricity pole and gone off the road".

They said one female driver was still inside the vehicle when crews arrived.

Firefighters worked with ambulance paramedics and police before using small tools and manual handling techniques to remove her from the wreckage.

The electricity board was then asked to make the damaged pole safe.

The woman was taken to hospital. The fire service statement does not give any update on her condition.
