Wells MP praises 'fantastic investment' for college

By Laura Linham 20th Dec 2022

Strode College in Street has been chosen to receive specialist support from The Open University to develop the number of higher education courses they can offer in and around Somerset.

The Department of Education funded programme will support Strode over the next three years to put on a wider range of advanced technical courses. These will – in turn – allow more of the graduates to secure jobs with higher wages, contributing to the local economy.

James Heappey, the Member of Parliament for Street, said: "This is fantastic news for Strode, and a welcome enhancement to the college's Higher Education provision.

"I look forward to hearing about the college's plan to develop the partnership with the Open University, and to increase the availability of degree-level education for Somerset residents. I want to congratulate Strode College on all the hard work as it once again leads the way in further education."

Strode College was also one of the first colleges in the country to offer T-Levels, showcasing all the hard work of the leadership and staff to provide such brilliant education to students in Somerset.

John Revill, Principal of Strode, said: "What a fantastic opportunity for the College to expand its higher education provision and work in partnership with the Open University. This is confirmation of the college's strategic ability to deliver the education and skills for the local and regional communities.
