Temporary restrictions are due to begin on Keen's Elm Lane in Street tomorrow to prevent unsuitable traffic using it during the Somerton Road closure.

A Somerset Council traffic order sets out a 7.5-tonne weight limit and a two-metre width limit along the lane's entire length.

The restrictions are scheduled to run from Tuesday, 13 October, until Tuesday, 3 November, and will apply when indicated by road signs. Exemptions are provided for emergency service vehicles and access.

The council's notice says the measures are intended to prevent inappropriate use of alternative routes during the temporary closure of the B3151 Somerton Road.

Somerton Road currently has temporary traffic lights while developers work on access to a housing site. These are scheduled to remain until Monday, 19 October.

A further full closure is planned from 20 October to 3 November. Another phase will then close the section between Burleigh Lane and Stallgrove Lane from 4 to 20 November.

The Keen's Elm Lane measures restrict the size and weight of vehicles using the route, rather than imposing a full road closure.

Further information is available through Somerset Council's traffic order register.
