Children's author Emma Carroll was a huge hit when she visited Ashcott School, near Street, during a school book event.

The school's Year 6 teacher said: "It was the best workshop from an author we have ever had. Emma was fun, engaging, thoughtful and inspiring.

"She taught the children the process of editing and how books come to life, and how long this takes – months! She also spent time reading children's edited work and giving constructive criticism.

"She signed our school library books and was a joy to have in school."

Emma's next book called Escape to the River Sea is due out on 9 June, and is an adventure set in the Amazon in 1946.

The visit was partially funded by Wells Festival of Literature, a charity that supports literacy in schools. The festival, featuring a host of visiting authors, will run from 18-26 October.
