Two new pizza takeaways could be coming to Street.

Two new pizza takeaways are set to open in Street following separate planning applications.

7 System Computers Ltd, based in the Bayliss Centre, will close its doors at 5pm today (24 July), after plans to convert the premises into a takeaway were approved by Somerset Council earlier this month. Drawings submitted with the application show new signage for Fireaway Authentic Pizza.

The application, submitted by Sanjay Patel, was granted permission on 10 July. In an online statement, 7 System Computers said the approval had "adversely impacted" its business, prompting the closure. The company also stated it had not been informed about the planning application by its landlord. Customers have expressed disappointment, with one describing the shop as a "fantastic service offered to the community."

Meanwhile, another former fixture on Street's High Street is also set to become a takeaway.

Plans have been submitted to convert the former AJ Shepherd & Sons Bakery & Confectioners into a new business named Pizza Junction. The bakery, which closed in 2023 after 92 years, will undergo internal renovation to install kitchen equipment and a front-of-house area.

According to the planning documents, Pizza Junction intends to operate between 4pm and 10pm daily. The existing bakery sign is to be replaced with the new business name and logo, and ventilation equipment will be installed to meet regulatory requirements.
