An 18-month free coach parking trial in Glastonbury has been given the green light to continue.

Coach companies busing in tourists to Glastonbury will be pleased to hear that Mendip District Council has decided to offer free coaching parking at one location indefinitely.

Back in April 2018 a trial was set up by the district council to look at the benefits of offering free parking at Northload Street West coach park in Glastonbury.

The trial was intended to run for 12 months, but had a further extension in May 2019 until the end of September 2019.

Following a decision from the council's portfolio holder for neighbourhood services, Cllr Nick Cottle, the free parking will now continue.

Cllr Cottle said: "Following informal customer and business feedback, the free parking facility for coaches has seen an increase in tourists and has been positively received by both bus and coach companies as well as the visitors.

"We hope that by fully adopting the free coach parking, we will see continual growth in the number of visitors and therefore increasing tourism, footfall in the High Street and use and support of our local businesses."
