If you heard sirens last night (August 28) then they would have come from one of three crews called in to a big fire near Wedmore.

Appliances from Glastonbury and Cheddar were later joined by an engine from Wells to the fire on Long Hill in Clewer.

They were called in just before 8pm after Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public reporting a large outbuilding on fire.

Cheddar and Glastonbury were immediately mobilised by Fire Control to fight a blaze at a large outbuilding of approximately 50 square meters which was well alight.

Crews got to work to start tackling the fire using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and a main jet. The Incident Commander requested the assistance of another fire appliance which came from Wells.

The fire caused approximately 80% fire damage to the building.
