A team from St Dunstan's School in Glastonbury will be tackling the town's Road Run at the weekend to fundraise in memory of a former student who passed away in 2017.

On Sunday (May 2), a team of teaching and support staff from St Dunstan's are running the Glastonbury Road Race 10K in memory of former pupil Amy Thomas, who died aged 14 in October 2017 from an asthma attack.

The team from St Dunstan's will include Jane Manning, Hannah Potter, Karen Gregory, Tracy Mitchell and Sheri Gerrard.

They said: "Amy was young, beautiful and vibrant, and was supposed to be enjoying parties and school, and generally being a teenager.

"It was a massive loss to the school and to the community as a whole, but her legacy has meant that research into curing asthma and helping to support those who suffer with it can go on.

"As a team of staff, we have found running to be a support to our mental health throughout the pandemic and we feel ready to take on the challenge of a timed, public 10K event.

"Since the event is being held near Glastonbury, Amy's home town, we felt it would be a fitting tribute and we also think that Amy would have found it quite good fun to watch us striving and struggling to the end.

Asthma UK's mission is to stop asthma attacks and cure asthma. It does this by funding world-leading research, campaigning for improved care and supporting people to reduce their risk of a potentially life threatening asthma attack.

It is entirely funded by voluntary donations, and at the time of writing, the nearly £900 had been pledged on the St Dunstan's team's JustGiving page.
