A man has appeared in court for sentencing after attacking a homeless man with a bread knife in Glastonbury town centre in September last year.
35-year-old Julian Clark from Dod Lane in Glastonbury took a cocktail of drugs before chasing the victim on High Street, making chopping motions with the weapon at 6.30am on September 12.
Despite members of the public rushing to the victim's aid, Clark managed to wound him before being fought off.
The victim sustained wounds to his head, requiring stitches.
Clark, who has a history of mental health issues, was sentenced for unlawful wounding in Taunton Crown Court yesterday.
Although Judge Paul Cook acknowledged Clark's academic background and previous good character, he emphasised that the attack was entirely unprovoked, and the victim was left traumatised by the experience.
Despite the unprovoked and terrifying attack, Clark was given a suspended sentence to seek help for his drug addiction and mental health issues, as it was deemed to better protect the public..
Clark was given a suspended two-year prison sentence and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.Homeless man wounded in Glastonbury knife attack by drug-fuelled man
