A telephone support line has been set up for the people of Glastonbury who need a listening ear during the coronavirus crisis lockdown.

The Sweet Track Counselling Agency CIC, which is based in the town, has set up the temporary phone support service for those who are needing someone to talk with during this difficult time of isolation and uncertainty that the coronavirus presents.

The agency has a team of volunteers who are offering a friendly voice and ear to listen to those who are needing to talk.

All people need to do is leave their name and phone number on either of these mobile numbers - 07739 761435 or 07519 818383.

A text message is fine for this and one of Sweet Track's volunteers will call back within 24 hours. This is not a medical helpline or advice, this is someone to share and talk to, someone to listen.

Collette Barnard, director of the agency's Community Trust, said: "It is important we unite together as a community to support those who are feeling vulnerable during such a change in the times.

"We built the Community Trust to provide a therapeutic service that can be accessible to anyone who wants it within the local community.

"It made sense for us to extend this out and adapt to meet the exceptional circumstances we find ourselves in today because of the coronavirus."

Sweet Track Counselling Agency provides professional, affordable and accessible therapy for the community in Glastonbury and surrounding areas who want support with mental health and emotional issues.

It currently offers low cost counselling, group therapy and eco-therapy, which is a new project that supports young people/adults who are at risk of suicide, working with nature as part of the therapeutic process.
