In a poignant display of respect and remembrance, the community of Street came together to observe Remembrance Day with a solemn parade and wreath-laying ceremony.

The event, starting at 2pm, was thoughtfully scheduled to allow residents from both Street and neighbouring Glastonbury to partake in commemorations across both towns.

The procession began at the Royal British Legion on Farm Road, a fitting start for a day dedicated to honouring military service and sacrifice. As the parade moved through the streets of Street, it brought together people from all walks of life, united in remembrance and reflection.

One of the distinctive features of Street's Remembrance Day was its journey through multiple memorial spots within the village, including the new memorial at the United Reform Church.

The culmination of the parade was the formal wreath-laying ceremony at Merriman Park. This act of laying wreaths is a traditional and powerful gesture of remembrance, respect, and gratitude.

This route not only allowed for a broader community participation but also symbolised the widespread impact of war on all corners of society.

Each memorial visited by the parade served as a poignant reminder of the local heroes who served and sacrificed.

It represents a tangible connection to the past and a collective commitment to remembering the sacrifices made for future generations.
