Street seeks local heroes for 2026 community awards
By Laura Linham 17th Mar 2026
Street Parish Council is asking residents to put forward their local heroes for this year's Community & Citizen Awards, which recognise individuals and organisations making a difference in the town. Nominations opened on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, and must be submitted by Friday, 17 April 2026.
The awards will be presented at the Annual Investiture Ceremony on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, at Strode Theatre in Street. The parish council said its Community Engagement Committee will shortlist nominations and select the winners.
Three categories are open this year. The Community Award is for a local not-for-profit group or organisation that has gone the extra mile to improve opportunities for people in Street and shown outstanding commitment to the community.
Citizen of the Year recognises an individual aged 18 or over who has made a significant voluntary contribution to Street. The council said nominees would ideally live in the town, although people from outside Street can still be considered where they can show a strong positive impact locally or an act of bravery. Achievements linked to paid employment are not eligible.
Young Citizen of the Year is for an exceptional person aged under 18 who has made a notable contribution to the Street community. Street Parish Council said nominees would usually live in the town, but young people educated in Street, or those able to show a meaningful impact on the community or an act of bravery, can also be considered.
Residents are being asked to submit nominations using the QR code on the parish council's publicity material.
