A fresh planning application that could see 71 new homes built off Cemetery Lane in Street is now open for public consultation — and residents are being urged to speak up before it's too late.

The outline application, submitted under reference 2025/0646/OUT, relates to a site known as Land at 347605 137350 Cemetery Lane.

If approved, the development would significantly expand housing in the area, prompting fresh questions about infrastructure, traffic and the village's long-term growth.

Street Parish Council's Planning Advisory Committee has been granted an extension to consider local feedback, with the deadline for public comments now pushed back to Wednesday 14 May.

Residents who want their voices heard are invited to attend the committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday 13 May, where Public Question Time will offer the chance to raise concerns or show support. The meeting begins at 6pm in Room 6 at the Crispin Community Centre.

Anyone wishing to speak is asked to contact the Assistant Clerk in advance via email at [email protected] or by calling 01458 440588.

Details of the planning application and information on how to comment can be found on the Somerset East Planning Portal, where guidance is also available for residents unfamiliar with the process.

Locals are being encouraged to take part while the opportunity remains open, with planning officers and councillors expected to weigh community feedback heavily as part of their decision-making.
