Street drivers are facing two days of disruption as High Street shuts for roadworks in August. Somerset Council has confirmed a temporary closure from the junction with Wilfrid Road to the junction with Glaston Road while patching works are carried out.

The closure covers 306 metres of one of the village's main routes. Kier will carry out the works on behalf of Somerset Council, with traffic banned from the affected stretch during the closure periods.

The works are expected to start on Monday, 10 August 2026, and run until Tuesday, 11 August 2026.

The road is due to close between 7 am and 5 pm on both days.

Somerset Council says the closure is needed because works are being, or are proposed to be, carried out on or near the road. The notice also refers to the likelihood of danger to the public, or serious damage to the road, as reasons for making the order.

For details about the works, Somerset Council can be contacted on 0300 123 2224, quoting reference ttro799088E.
