Street B3151 closure to continue until 9 September
By Laura Linham 2nd Sep 2026
Drivers in Street are being reminded that part of the B3151 at Somerton Road will remain closed until Wednesday, 9 September while developers continue work on access to a housing site.
The current closure is allowing a package of highway works to take place, including crossing improvements, a new junction and widening of the existing road. Signed diversions remain in place while the work continues.
Somerset Council says it is working with the housing developers to try to reduce the impact on motorists as the scheme moves through several different phases over the coming weeks.
Once the current closure ends, temporary traffic lights will be installed from Thursday, 10 September until Monday, 19 October, allowing the road to reopen while work continues.
The full closure is then due to return from Tuesday, 20 October until Tuesday, 3 November, again with signed diversions in place.
There will be another separate closure immediately afterwards, with the road between Burleigh Lane and Stallgrove Lane shut from Wednesday, 4 November until Friday, 20 November.
That means drivers using Somerton Road will need to keep an eye on the changing arrangements well into autumn, rather than assuming the end of the current closure means the works are finished altogether.
Somerset Council says the phased approach is intended to give contractors the space they need while reducing disruption where possible.
