Street A39 works on track for end-of-April finish
By Laura Linham 2nd Apr 2026
Somerset Council says work on the A39 in Street is on schedule and due to finish by the end of April.
The council said work is "progressing very well" and is now focused on the final resurfacing and lining along the A39. It said the programme remains on schedule, with completion expected by the end of April.
That will come as a boost for drivers and businesses in Street after weeks of disruption on one of the town's key routes. The council said the work forms part of a wider county-wide investment to improve safety, reliability and traffic flow.
But there is still more disruption to come before the job is wrapped up.
Somerset Council said the A39 Westway, between Street Roundabout and Westway Roundabout, will be closed on selected evenings from 7 pm to 11 pm for the final resurfacing stage. The published dates are Thursday, 2 April, and then from Tuesday, 7 April to Thursday, 23 April inclusive, including weekend evenings.
The authority said access for residents, businesses and emergency services will be maintained throughout the closures. It said this would be done either through signed diversion routes or a shuttle system through the works.
Drivers have also been warned that all closures and traffic management arrangements remain subject to change because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
The council said advance warning signs are in place and updates will continue to be issued through the scheme's public liaison officer.
