More than 100 arrests have been made across Somerset during the first fortnight of Avon and Somerset Police's annual Christmas drink and drug driving crackdown.
The campaign launched on Sunday, 1 December. As of Friday, 13 December, 117 drivers had been arrested — up from 111 during the same period in 2024.
The roads policing team said drink and drug driving was a factor in 25 per cent of fatal crashes in the force area this year.
Proactive roadside checks and technology including ANPR cameras, CCTV and community intelligence are used year-round to detect offenders.
Police are urging anyone with information about suspected drink or drug drivers in Somerset towns and villages to report them. If a driver is currently behind the wheel, call 999. Anonymous tips can also be passed to Crimestoppers.
