Sharp rise in crime rates for Street and Glastonbury

Data released by local authorities show a month-on-month increase in recorded crime for the areas of Street and Glastonbury in August 2023.
To clarify the types of crime covered in the data: anti-social behaviour involves acts like nuisance behaviour, public drunkenness, and vandalism. Bicycle theft is the unauthorised taking of bicycles, while burglary pertains to the unlawful entry into buildings to commit theft, assault, or fraud. Criminal damage arson covers both property damage and intentional setting of fires.
Drug-related crimes involve the illegal possession, sale, or manufacture of drugs. The category of other theft is a catch-all for thefts not classified under other headings. Possession of weapons refers to the unauthorised carrying or possession of weapons. Public order crimes include acts that disrupt peace and order, such as rioting and violent protests. Robbery is theft involving force or the threat of force. Shoplifting specifically refers to the theft of merchandise from retail stores.
Vehicle crime encompasses both theft from or of a vehicle, as well as criminal damage to vehicles. Violent crime includes instances of physical assault, harassment, and other acts of violence. Lastly, the category of other crime includes a variety of acts that do not fit neatly into the categories mentioned.
In Street, the total number of crimes recorded in August 2023 was 82, compared to 67 in July 2023. Categories such as anti-social behaviour, bicycle theft, and vehicle crime recorded an increase.
Violent crime showed a slight decrease, with 25 instances in August compared to 27 in July.
In Glastonbury, the total number of crimes recorded increased from 107 in July 2023 to 126 in August 2023. The category of anti-social behaviour recorded 28 instances in August compared to 20 in July. Shoplifting saw an increase from 4 instances in July to 21 in August. The category of violent crime recorded 45 instances in August compared to 47 in July.
