Sarah Dyke MP marks one year in Parliament

Sarah Dyke has marked her first year as MP for Glastonbury and Somerton by highlighting key achievements for residents across Street, Glastonbury and the wider constituency.
The Liberal Democrat MP was elected in July 2024, winning the newly created seat as part of a wider national surge for her party. One year on, Ms Dyke says she has been focused on ensuring rural communities like those in Mendip have a strong voice in Westminster.
Since taking office, Ms Dyke has worked to restore Winter Fuel Payments, pressed the Government to improve local bus services, and campaigned against the so-called "family farm tax" — a policy she continues to challenge as a member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Select Committee.
She has also used her role on the committee to push for tougher regulation of the water industry and greater accountability for pollution by water companies.
Her office has handled more than 7,000 pieces of casework in the past year, assisting local residents affected by the infected blood and Horizon scandals, as well as people facing unfair disability benefit decisions.
Reflecting on her first year in the job, Ms Dyke said: "A year ago, I was incredibly honoured to be elected MP for Glastonbury and Somerton. Since my election it has been a privilege to serve the people of this constituency, making sure they have the strong, active voice in Parliament that they deserve.
"I'm committed to making sure our rural communities are heard, and get fair treatment from Westminster. Over this first year I've focused on the local issues that matter most: standing up for rural health services, supporting Somerset's farmers and pushing for improved public transport and better rural connectivity.
"I'm proud to have helped restore Winter Fuel Payments and made real progress on rural bus services. I've also taken the fight to Ministers over the family farm tax and disability benefits and challenged water companies directly over pollution and poor performance."
She added: "After years of Conservative failure and neglect, the Liberal Democrats are delivering the change our part of Somerset needs."
