A kaleidoscope of criminal activity has coloured the streets of Glastonbury and Street over the past two months, painting a nuanced picture of the challenges facing local law enforcement.

In Glastonbury, the number of reported crimes rose slightly, from 86 in May to 89 in June.

Anti-social behaviour, which includes activities like vandalism and public intoxication, almost doubled from 11 cases in May to 22 in June. Conversely, violent crimes, ranging from simple assaults to more grievous offences, fell from 43 to 31. Public order offences like affray and disorderly conduct were reported 11 times in June, a slight dip from 13 in May.

Other categories in Glastonbury offered their own stories. A single bicycle theft occurred in June, burglary increased from one to three cases, and criminal damage and arson—encompassing property destruction and fire-setting—fell from nine cases in May to four in June.

Shoplifting stayed at four cases for June, and "other theft" remained at five instances. Vehicle crimes jumped from two in May to seven in June, and both months saw a single "other crime" recorded.

Over in Street, 86 crimes were logged in June, a decrease from 93 in May.

Violent crime inched up from 36 in May to 39 in June. Anti-social behaviour cases reduced to nine from 15 in May. Burglaries were halved from six in May to three in June. Criminal damage and arson went from three to five, and drug-related crimes increased from one case in May to four in June.

Other categories in Street included eight "other thefts," up from four in May.

Public order crimes stayed steady at 11 for both months, and shoplifting maintained a consistent five cases each month. Theft from the person, which is stealing directly from someone without breaking and entering, had a single case reported in June.

Vehicle crimes plummeted from five in May to just one in June. Both May and June had one instance of "other crime."

A police spokesman said: "While we're encouraged by the reduction in certain categories, violent crime continues to be a significant concern for both communities. We're actively working on initiatives to bring these numbers down and improve public safety."

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to aid law enforcement by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
