Date: 26.07.2019Time: 13:10Location: Butleigh Wootton, StreetA rider in their early 20s was rescued this afternoon after their horse fell and landed in a ditch, trapping them underneath.

A fire appliance and rescue tender from Glastonbury were the first crews on scene and after assessing the incident, set to work rescuing the rider and assisting the horse out. They used strops initially to roll the horse, which had landed on its back, off the casualty, allowing it to climb out of the ditch uninjured. They were then able to safely access the rider and rescue them, before rendering first aid whilst awaiting the arrival of Ambulance paramedics. The incident was brought under control at 13:46hrs, with duty of care being left with the land owners and Ambulance service.
