Reform UK's Taunton and Wellington branch has held an event in Taunton featuring Danny Kruger MP and Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch. The gathering took place in September following the party's national conference in Birmingham, although the branch did not provide an exact date or venue in the information supplied to Nub News.

The branch said members, councillors and supporters attended from across Somerset and other parts of the West of England. The event opened with a tribute to former MP Ann Widdecombe which the branch said had also been shown at Reform UK's national conference.

Ms Widdecombe and Linden Kemkaran, leader of Kent County Council, had spoken at the branch's event the previous year, according to organisers.

Danny Kruger was among this year's speakers. He is the Reform UK MP for East Wiltshire, having been elected to the seat as a Conservative in 2024 before later joining Reform UK. UK Parliament records currently list him as a Reform UK MP for East Wiltshire.

Mr Kruger spoke about his work preparing the party for the possibility of entering government in the future. Reform UK has publicly described him as its head of "Preparing for Government".

According to the Taunton and Wellington branch, his remarks included proposals concerning the relationship between ministers and the Cabinet Office.

George Finch also addressed the event. He is currently leader of Warwickshire County Council, a position confirmed by the authority following its annual meeting in May.

Both speakers encouraged members to become involved in party activity and preparations for future local and national elections, the branch said.

The event was introduced by Robert Holland and Stephen Tierney, with Louise Peace leading the organising committee. Reform UK's own Taunton and Wellington branch pages list Mr Holland as branch chairman and Mr Tierney as vice-chairman.

The branch said the event was also used by members and supporters to discuss campaigning and political organisation ahead of future elections.
