Glastonbury in Bloom has a very long history and until very recently few if any of the cups and other awards of earlier times were known to exist.

However, following the last Glastonbury in Bloom, Advisory Committee meeting (16th November 2022), The Mayor Councillor Jon Cousins produced a box which had been discovered while the Town Hall had been having the boiler replaced.

The box contained cups, shields and other awards from previous Glastonbury in Bloom competitions.

The awards range from Best School - which was dated 1995 which was awarded to the Abbey School and in the year 2000 to St Benedict's School - which still to this day take part in the competition. In total there were 11 awards in the box.

The discovery of this silverware will expand the competition categories, which it is hoped will encourage more of the town's residents to enter the "domestic" competition.

The coordinators hope the rediscovery of the cups and awards will encourage a much greater entry and they look forward to a busy gardening season.

If you can spare a few hours a week to help maintain the floral displays in the town the coordinators would be delighted to hear from you, please contact Sarah Marks (Glastonbury in Bloom Committee Clerk) at the Town Hall (01458 831769) who will arrange an appointment for the coordinators to meet you.
