The Red Lion in West Pennard will be expanding after planning permission was given by Mendip District Council.

The application for a rear single storey extension and internal alterations at The Lion At Pennard, Woodlands Road to Stockbridge Lane, West Pennard, was made by Mr and Mrs Tucker.

Permission was given for the extension back 2016 but work did not start within the three years allowed, so approval had to be gained again.

The plan is to demolish part of the rear of the pub, and replace it with the new extension, which will allow the business to increase the number of covers it can cater for.

Planning applications in the Glastonbury area submitted to Mendip District Council this week include:

Demolition of existing conservatory and construction of a single storey extension to the rear of the property at 23 Boundary Way, Glastonbury, is wanted by Mr Stuart Manser.

Erection of a single storey dwelling with associated access and parking on land east of Squires, Mardis Lane, West Lydford, has been applied for by Mrs S Buxton.

Planning applications in the Glastonbury area which have been decided this week by Mendip District Council include:

Creation of a small organic market garden including erection of six portable buildings and three small poly-tunnels on land at Westhay Moor Drove, Godney, by Mr Raymond Hayes has been approved.

Erection of a carport at 2 Beretun Orchard, Old Butleigh Road, Glastonbury, by Mr David Smith has been approved.

Conversion of existing garage to studio and replacement of garage doors at Heron House, 2 The Rushes, Meare, by Mr Ben Costigan has been approved.

Change of use from C1 to C3 (children's one-bed residential unit) at 6 Godney Close, Glastonbury, by Mr Ian Brandon has been withdrawn.
