The Red Brick Building in Glastonbury, a former sheepskin factory turned community centre, has launched an urgent fundraising campaign to address unexpected emergency repairs.

Known for hosting a diverse array of events, from gigs and comedy shows to yoga classes and art workshops, the venue is facing a critical challenge: eight of its nine internal pillars and a section of flooring in the main event space are crumbling and need immediate attention.

The projected cost for these essential repairs is £117,000, putting the grassroots music venue and community hub at serious risk.

A, spokesperson for the Red Brick Building, shared, "Each pillar will cost an estimated £9,000 to rebuild. We're hoping the community will come together to help us raise enough to rebuild a pillar while we work hard to secure additional funding from sponsors and grants."

The Red Brick Building is more than just an event space; it serves as a crucial community hub. It hosts a weekly youth club in collaboration with the YMCA, supports local students with work experience opportunities, and provides affordable co-working spaces for small businesses and entrepreneurs. The centre also features a community garden that promotes mental and physical well-being through sustainable gardening practices.

The venue has seen performances by national artists such as Toploader, Jah Wobble, James Acaster, and Milton Jones. It also supports local musicians, DJs, and young event promoters by providing a professional music venue without the high price tag.

The multifunctional events space, home to 'The Snug' by Glastonbury Mental Health Network, offers a weekly free community drop-in that supports local people with creative activities for mental wellbeing.

The community's response so far has been promising, with nearly £2,000 raised, thanks to the generosity of local supporters, but there is still a long way to go.

You can support the Red Brick Building by spreading the word, making a donation, or sponsoring a pillar. Every contribution counts and will help ensure that this essential community hub can continue to offer its wide range of services and events.
