In the early hours fire crews from three stations were mobilised to reports of a gas leak into a property in Wedmore. Fire appliances from Cheddar, Glastonbury and Taunton attended the incident along with the Environmental Protection Unit also from Taunton.

Upon arrival crews confirmed that the gas main into the property had been externally severed and got to work using 2 breathing apparatus, 1 hose reel jet, 1 safety jet, 1 thermal imaging camera, a gas monitor and environmental protection equipment to stem the leak.

A cordon was put in place and surrounding properties were evacuated.

The local utility companies, Wales and West, Western Power and the police were also there to help out.

There were no reports of any injuries.
